To study history or not to study history. That is the question

One of the difficulties in teaching medicine after the Holocaust to American students is their limited knowledge of US history. As this article from the Wall Street Journal on June 30, 2016 points out, even history majors have few requirements to study US history. Because premed students are usually required to take science rather than humanities courses for admission into American medical schools, their knowledge of US history is even more inadequate. This deficiency makes it difficult for medical students to appreciate the changes in the US government that have greatly influenced American medicine for the past 100 years.
